Default 79 Bronco question.

I have a 79 Bronco that I'm fixing up. I didn't like the camper top because I'm going to just use it for mountains and beach. And maybe take trash to the dump. The question is how come I can't get a safety inspection w/o the camper top on it? They're built to come off. And can I get a recon w/ the sport top I have on it now? Here's some pictures to see what I've done to it. Thanks for any info. Can't post pictures.

Try going to a different place to get your safety. Some places may be a little more strict about what they let "pass". Not saying your truck looks illegal...I'd let it pass (it's the same as a Jeep w/removeable top). But I could understand how some places wouldn't let it pass. Safety Checks can be a cash-cow for some places...but that "cow" can easily be slaughtered.

The place that does my safety already has 2-strikes this year...one more and he could lose his privileges for x-amount of time. He does his stuff by-the-books, but his two mistakes were paperwork issues (1 wrong year, 1 incomplete form). And he only does it as a "courtesy" for people who comes to him for repairs...doesn't advertise it.

Try calling smaller repair shops/gas stations. If you're driving around, just stop at one of those places and ask them straight-up if they'd pass you. All they can say is "no". But you might get lucky and they'd say yes.

Thanks, yea I'm checking into that now. Also, Jeeps were the first thing that came to mind. This is not an everyday driver, gas alone would kill me. Just something to take the family out in, and haul stuff around. Anyone else have any ideas?

if i was still an inspector, as long as it was safe in all other aspects, i would've passed it.

if jeeps can come in w/ their soft-tops off, and convertibles can come in w/ the top down, then i can't see why you wouldn't pass (the 1G 4Runners also had removable tops, and they pass).

heck, i see CJ/TJ/YJ jeeps running round w/ no freakin DOORS - just the door bar replacement kits, and they've got safety checks.

Yep, Keana Point. Got to take it for a run now and then, so nothing freezes up. Lol.

These Broncos have some balls. 4low in second gear will get you a good run. As long as you can shift it into 3rd fast enough and keep it in there(i know, its a long throw, but can).
Where I took these pics is where we used to hold sand races. From the coral(first pic) to the other end of the bay(kinda where camera guy is standing) used to take me 17 seconds in my stock 94 Ranger. I didnt race the Bronc before but it scooped the Yota and Suzi on the sand.
Im partial to Toyotas but I love my Ford trucks. lol
