Default 2.2 monster truck racing class for RCMTC-HI

For all you crawler/scale guys out there who've always wanted to get into monster truck racing but didn't want to get into the "Clod" thing, you now have a new option. The new Modified 1 or ModI racing class in the Radio Control Monster Truck Challenge-Hawaii(RCMTC-HI) lets trucks like HPI Wheely Kings, Tamiya tlts, and even custom built Axial monsters race in a class of their own. Since it is a single motor(must use HPI 15T Firebolt motor, same as Blitz SC) 4WD class it is limited to shaft trucks, which is something unique within our series. Since this class is new and very few guy race shafties in monster trucks, now is the time to get in on the ground floor of a totally new class of racing. The class will make it's debut at the second race of the season on February 27th and will run every other race(about once a month). Here's the rules we have setup for the class:

Modified 1 or ModI Class:

Intent: This class is meant for beginners and experienced drivers to competitively race smaller single motored monster trucks like, but not limited to, Wheely Kings, TLTs, and Axial based trucks. But the rules do allow the use of any solid axles so it is legal to build TXT and TwinForce based trucks but they will be heavy. Because it is a single motor 4WD class it is limited to driveshaft vehicles.

Rules:

Body: 1/10-1/8th scale hard plastic or lexan

Chassis: no restrictions

Steering: Front tires must steer but 4WS is allowed

Suspension: no restrictions

Axles: Solid type(Wheely King, Axial, TLT/Highlift, Ground Pounder, etc.) No independent suspension allowed

Transmission: single speed(multi speed transmission may be mounted but must be locked in one gear for racing)

Motor: Single HPI 15T Firebolt 540 motor(#1146)

Pinion: no restrictions

Wheelbase: no restrictions

Track width: no restrictions

Wheels: Standard 2.2 type wheels. No modifcations to bead diameter and spacing allowed

Tires: Must use tires designed for 2.2" rims. Approved tire designs are stock Wheely King tires, stock Stampede tires, Proline Masher 2000s, Imex Pullers, Imex Bajas, Imex All-Ts, and Imex Rubicons. These tires were specifically chosen because of their size and they resemble real 48" and 66" flotation tire designs. That ensures the trucks are monster trucks and not truggys. trads may be modified(i.e. shaving) but no modifications to the carcass(no narrowing or reducing) is allowed.

Battery: Single 2s lipos(maximum amperage of 100amps(C rating X mah capacity) or any 8.4V or lower NiMH or NiCad battery(any capacity) is legal.

OK gang. Start going through your spare crawler parts boxes and build a RCMTC-HI Mod1 class racer or go out a find your self a Wheely King and join the fun. Mine is just about done with a few minor updates.

- Custom chassis
- Stampede transmission
- MIP shafts
- Axial axles with open diffs
- Wheely King wheels and tires (shaved)
- Hesse Machine lower links
- Traxxas big bore shocks
- HPI firebolt 15t brushed motor
- Mamba Max ESC
- 2s Lipo

We are debuting the mod1 class with the rest of our race classes during our next schedule race on February 15 so all are welcome to join us (see map below) in the fun, watch the action or ask questions.

Made a few mods to my MOD1 class truck prior to yesterdays race.
- Paited a new body.
- Moved the stampede trans forward 1/4".
- Made a pair of upper link mountes on the chassis and shorter links to
minimize front caster angle chages during suspension travel.
- Made a pair of link mounted sway bars using 3/32" piano wire.

Based on yesterdays race, I need to up the pinion (Couldn't keep up with HawnMT's TLT) and work on suspension by finding alot softer springs and lighter shock oil.
