Default need some help finding a drive-inn -

Hope this is the best place to ask this question:

need some help from big island folk. my co-worker and i loooove hamburger steak (even though i'm not supposed to be eating that kind of stuff).

she told me that whenever she goes back to hilo, she goes to a place called blane's drive inn on the way home from the airport - says they have the best hamburger steak around.

we'll be up in hilo next week - she said blanes is in the industrial area (i have no clue where that is).

would any of you happen to know where this place is? we'll be staying at the hilo hawaiian again.

i'm trying to take my son to all the places my father took me to when he used to take me to hilo (although that was like 20 years ago).

thanks!

Blane's Drive Inn in the industrial area is on Wiwoole Street. It's on the same property as Lex Brodies. You can see it from Kanoelehua. Go on Kanoelehua, turn right on to Makaala St. Then turn right again after Orchid Isle Ford. Then turn right onto Wiwoole St. You can't miss it.

Personally, I think Blane's is over priced. You want good loco's or hamburger steak, you are better off at Freddy's or Cafe 100.

theres a bunch of blaines drive in's on the big island. my friends uncle owns the place.

but like nice said over priced. my other friends family owns freddy's and damn they have the cheapest loco moco ever and it's pretty damn decent. as for cafe 100 their hamburger steak is mento lol. ooh try vernas too, try their katsu dip it's not on the menu though, but ask for it. it's chicken katsu dipped in korean chicken sauce which is awesome. or vernas mana burger, which is a cheeseburger with a teriburger patty with an egg on top. you could also go to kens house of pancakes which is right by vernas and like a few mnutes away from blaines so you could try all 3 in one day. Vernas is open until 11 at night iirc and 24 hours on the weekend, and kens is open 24 hours a day every day. kens is slightly more on the pricey side but you'll be more than satisfied. if you need more suggestions just let me or nick know

thanks for all the tips!

yeah, Cafe 100 is a must-go-to place for us. I wish Lincoln Grill was still around, so i could show my son the home of the loco moco.

Where's Freddys? i probably went there with my mom once a long time ago, but just can't remember.

Is Jimmy's still around too? we used to go there and eat before we headed back to the airport.

my father used to take me to these places to sample the loco moco in the saimin bowls, etc... (pro'lly where i picked up my taste and weakness for hamburger steak).

we love ken's - we go there early in the a.m. before it gets crowded for breakfast (right down the street from hotel). son loves the omlettes and pancakes. two orders is enough for the three of us. never tried lunch or dinner there, though. we're usually with the family after around 09:00 or so.

any good dinner/japanese resteraunts around? breakfast/lunch places aren't so bad since we're already out and about with the family, but dinner places are harder to find for us (haven't been back in a while, so dunno what/where's good).

son loves somen/soba, miso soup, etc... any suggestions?

thanks again!

gotta put all these places in my gps before we leave...

Freddy's is on Manono St. next to the mini mart there. Just go up Kekuanoa Rd and turn right on to Manono. You'll see it on your left. Jimmy's is still open if I remember correctly.

Verna's is just before you get to the hotels by the 76 station on the corner.

As for Japanese food, you can go to Restaurant Miwa in the Hilo Shopping Center, or try Restaurant Nihon at the end of Liliuokalani Park.

oh, thanks! i thought it sounded familiar - we only drove by it each time we were going back to the hotels... it's on the ocean side, kind of a faded building with a big sign? (could be wrong, it's been almost exactly a year since we were back there).

ah, cool. my son will be happy. we had a heck of a time finding a resteraunt on a sat night last year (mom decided to stay at the reunion at our aunt's house, son was tired and wanted to go back to the hotel so we decided to look for a place on the way home). didn't have a clue where to go w/o my mom with us.

ooh, thanks for the suggestion for korean food - we love a good meat jun.

son wants to try bi bim bop (saw a picture of it at a korean restaurant). he might get a kick out of dol sot bi bim bop also, if we can find it.

leaving tomorrow a.m. - son is more excited about the food and visiting the volcano than he is about seeing his cousins or going fishing.

hope traffic won't be so bad since the royal couple is also leaving tomorrow for kona.

^^ thanks!

is it raining up there? it's pouring down here.

debating whether to take our tennis stuff too. wanted to try and check out lincoln park or hoolulu courts again. used to play there all the time. are the indoor courts still there?

dunno if i can fit the tennis stuff in, since i've got the fishing gear crammed into our luggage too.

might not have much time to holoholo, though. just found out yesterday we have a funeral to go to on friday, and to the temple and visit gravesites on sat.
