Default music scene in kona???

hello all! me and my boyfriend are moving to the west side of the big island within the next couple of months, and we were interested in the music scene there....is there one? from what i have found online, the majority of the local bands play hawaiian music, but i may just be looking in the wrong places. he is looking into forming a band there, and is interested in meeting other musicians.
any and all suggestions about new life on the big island will be GREATLY appreciated! we will be tenting and know very little about how the climate actually is there. i am still waiting to hear from a friend who lives there to give me the details, so any help would be amazing. thank you so much for reading and have a great day!

ayup... but then again, if you want to find out other sources of music, probably the local bar scene or university/cc would be the places to look.

ask around, talk story - heck, you'd be surprised at who is a musician - the most unlikely looking folk.

friend of mine always wears long sleeve shirts and ties, even in 90 degree weather, clean cut, professional-looking dude. thought maybe he used to be in business or something - turned out he was in a heavy metal/punk rock band back home, and is starting up a band here.

when he said this at a work party, everyone pretty much fell out of their chairs and we weren't even drunk yet.
